what i love about London – Living in London #4

London is well known all around the world as a cultural, financial, historical and political melting pot with about 9 million inhabitants. It is the capital and largest city of both England and the United Kingdom, as well as the largest city within the European Union. London has a lot to offer. Here’s what I love most about this wonderful, magical and interesting city.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED

An undeniable benefit of a city this big is that everything you want or need is almost always nearby to where you live. The next supermarket, clothes store or hospital is not too far away in most cases. Not only basic needs will be covered here. Crave a french cupcake? No problem, Mayfair is where we need to go! Want to see a concert of a famous singer? Sure, let’s book a ticket for the O2 Arena or the Wembley Stadium! What about a boutique selling only designer vintage? Notting Hill baby!

You can have everthing you want or didn’t even know you wanted. Businesses here have a lot of competition so they specify and narrow down their offers, which makes it very interesting to keep up with how the market changes over time. May it be food, entertainment, history, art or covering basic needs, London has it all – in a convenient distance.

JUST FOLLOW ME

The underground is fasctinating to me. You get everywhere quick and there are so many stations placed across the whole city. They make it easy for you to get where you need to go and the paths and train stops are so well thought out. The trains run every few minutes and are overall very efficient.

Unfortunately I have noticed that the tube is hot af in summer and sometimes unbearable. It can be crowdy and even so crowded, that they have to shut down stations. Still it is one of the fastest ways to get around London.

Fun fact: If you would want to go from South to North London, it would take you about 3 hours.

WHATEVER YOU WANNA DO

In London there is always something going on. Be it famous musicians on their world concert, plays in the theater or demonstrations highlighting the effects of climate change.

Because there are so many people living here, there ist always something to see. The main streets are busy most of the time and street performers play songs, dance or involve passengers in magic tricks all day long.

Not only do a lot of celebrities have homes in London, also the greatest chefs, hairdressers and nail artists can be found. There are so many things to enjoy in this wonderful city I now call my home.

ALL YOU CAN EAT

One aspects I love most about big cities is that there is always a great variety of food choices. You can choose from cuisines from all over the world. They also deliver sometimes even 24 hours a day. I once ordered something at 1 am on a Tuesday and it was amazing. Since I moved here I tried different dishes, including Asian food. Turns out, I am a huge fan of sushi and other Asian dishes.

You can find the best restaurants in the world in this vibrant city but some of us are short on budget when it comes to eating out. For that we have off-license stores and supermarkets on every corner. If you find yourself in Central London you will even find restaurants, cafés and fast food restaurants on every corner of the street. I personally love walking through the narrow streets close to Oxford Circus and just enjoy people drinking coffee and chill in the sun.

DIVERSITY IS STRENGTH

London is an incredible diverse city. There are so many different cultures even apart from all the tourists. You will hear people speak different languages to each other or on the phone on the street, on the bus and in parks. This brings tolerance, new ideas and views on life itself.
People from all around the globe are gathered together and enjoy the magic of England and its people. You will also notice the diversity when it comes to fashion. Clothes don’t matter. Be whoever you want to be.

THE LANGUAGE OF THE WORLD

Yes, there are many different languages spoken in London. Nevertheless we can’t forget the language of the nation – English. I haven’t always been a huge fan of the English language until I started to teach myself. At first I got the lowest grades possible but then I began to get interested in expanding my knowledge so I read books and watched movies in English after school. That gave me a different approach to the situation.

My grades improved and I got better at writing and speaking. Now that I have moved to an English speaking country I realized how much I love their accent. It is so lovely and I totally fell in love with it. I improve my speaking skills with every conversation I have and get better every time. Afterall it is one of the most charming languages in the world.

All in all it can be said that London is an amazing city and I love being here. It has so many cool things to see and experience that I don’t even know about just yet. I hope you too will once enjoy the city that is London in England.

Never forget that life is an adventure.
